Week 6 B

 The main assignment for this week was to draw 100 hands using a tablet device. I was using procreate on the I-pad. As a first time user of both Procreate and the I-pad, this was an interesting experience. At first I did not know how to  use procreate, but then I started to get the hang of it. It is similar top illustrator, just without all the extra bells and whistles. For this exercise I decided to draw cartoon hands because that is the style I feel most comfortable with and want to further my skills in. The tutorial that was given to draw cartoon hands was very useful and I tried to go off of that as best I could. I also found some other tutorials on different style cartoon hands. You can view some of them from the following links.  This was overall a difficult task to complete because I never really had any experience drawing hands or anything with a pen before. I am used to the pen tool in illustrator and not so much free hand. Saying that, this exercise was still a great experience for me because it helped me feel more confidant in drawing some hands. As my drawings progress, you can definitely see improvement and I hope this exercise gives me the practice that I needed. Techniques






Some of the techniques used were using little circles to outline the fingers, using stick fingers to outline the fingers, and using the mitten technique. Theses were the main techniques that I found and used along with the other ones found in the links above.

Week 10 B

 I have decided to change up the design style up just a bit to ensure cohesiveness with my gif. I have changed the style of the ghosts. Instead of having them drawn in the sketchy chalk style, I had made it a flat ink white style using the gel ink brush in procreate. I felt that the stark difference between the sketchy style and the bright smooth fire style made it look a little off. These changes make the piece look more cohesive and I believe that it looks and works better. This was a great exorcise for me because I love animation. Anything animation related is my go to and I hope more projects can have some kind of motion or animating to them in the future. Below is my final gif and time lapse. it is consisted of 20 frames. Week 10 A

  For this week we have to create an animated gif. We can choose any topic we want and since it's Halloween season, I have decided to turn a portion of my latest illustration into an animated gif. found below you can see my progress so far. Basically I took the soul ball and animated it by having ghosts or soul floating up towards the top of the flaming soul ball/orb. Ever since I was illustrating this, I always imagined it being animates. Now I can make that a reality.

Week 9 B

 Final project UPDATED SUBMISSION  To reiterate my thought process for this project, I wanted to do something more abstract instead of a more literal connection to the article. I wanted to illustrate the overall motive and goal of the man in the article. His whole goal year after year is to get the chance to scare some kids on Halloween. I wanted to illustrate his goal finally becoming a reality by illustrating a spooky skeleton hand holding the souls of the trick or treaters he finally scared straight. One last minute change I made was to add masks to the ghosts to add another connection to the article and that this year if Halloween isn't canceled, most kids will probably be wearing some kind of mask under their costume.      This project was a fun experiment for me.
