Week 1

  For project one I have decided to come up with my own compound word to illustrate. I have decided to choose Lightning bug. I am going to focus on lightning bug for a couple of reasons. First, I think they are really neat and I am curious on how they actually light up. Second, I love everything that has to do with lightning. So when I read that we have to literally illustrate a compound word I was excited to give the lightning bug a try. I am visualizing either a lightning bug that is calling down/surrounded by lightning or I am thinking about making it into a comic style illustration by having the bug be a superhero with the power of lightning. Whatever I decide to do I'm sure I will enjoy illustrating it. Below are some of my initial thumbnail sketches.

    Lightning bug is not a compound word, however superhero is a compound word. So I would work with the first concept of a superhero bug. Superheros are very pop culture now. Really push this concept and think in terms of why lightning bug are important to our environment this may help you concept your background or idea further.

Week 10 B

 I have decided to change up the design style up just a bit to ensure cohesiveness with my gif. I have changed the style of the ghosts. Instead of having them drawn in the sketchy chalk style, I had made it a flat ink white style using the gel ink brush in procreate. I felt that the stark difference between the sketchy style and the bright smooth fire style made it look a little off. These changes make the piece look more cohesive and I believe that it looks and works better. This was a great exorcise for me because I love animation. Anything animation related is my go to and I hope more projects can have some kind of motion or animating to them in the future. Below is my final gif and time lapse. it is consisted of 20 frames. Week 10 A

  For this week we have to create an animated gif. We can choose any topic we want and since it's Halloween season, I have decided to turn a portion of my latest illustration into an animated gif. found below you can see my progress so far. Basically I took the soul ball and animated it by having ghosts or soul floating up towards the top of the flaming soul ball/orb. Ever since I was illustrating this, I always imagined it being animates. Now I can make that a reality.

Week 9 B

 Final project UPDATED SUBMISSION  To reiterate my thought process for this project, I wanted to do something more abstract instead of a more literal connection to the article. I wanted to illustrate the overall motive and goal of the man in the article. His whole goal year after year is to get the chance to scare some kids on Halloween. I wanted to illustrate his goal finally becoming a reality by illustrating a spooky skeleton hand holding the souls of the trick or treaters he finally scared straight. One last minute change I made was to add masks to the ghosts to add another connection to the article and that this year if Halloween isn't canceled, most kids will probably be wearing some kind of mask under their costume.      This project was a fun experiment for me. This was the first time I had done a project in procreate and it definitely won't be the last.
